Every so often, a player comes along whose story reminds us why youth sports matter — whose dedication speaks as loudly as their talent. For Eastside FC, that player is B09 ECNL's Jonathan Garcia Mendoza, a whose commitment to the game has now earned him one of the highest honors in the league: Selection to the ECNL Conference Cup this December.
This accomplishment is a testament to years of sacrifice, focus, and belief in what’s possible.
A Standout From the Start
Jonathan’s soccer journey has been special from early on. At just 13 years old, he was already making waves, featured in the Wenatchee World as a “soccer prodigy” with national and international interest. Even then, he was competing—and winning—against some of the strongest young players in the country.
But while talent played a role, it was his mindset that separated him: always learning, always hungry.
A Commute Fueled by Ambition
Jonathan lives in Wenatchee, two hours away from Eastside FC’s training facilities in Preston. And yet, several times a week, he makes that drive.
Why? Because he wanted to challenge himself in an environment that would push him beyond what was available locally. He joined Eastside FC two years ago, seeking a higher-profile pathway, stronger competition, and ultimately a better shot at earning a college scholarship.
That’s time in the car, late nights, early mornings, and miles of dedication that most players never see, but that have shaped who he is.
Excellence Recognized
This past season, Jonathan was named First Team All-Conference in the ECNL, a major achievement that recognized his impact, leadership, and play in one of the most competitive regions in the country.
But his biggest milestone to date comes now:
Jonathan has been selected by the ECNL to participate in the 2025 ECNL Conference Cup this December in Raleigh, North Carolina.
This selection places him among the top players nationwide. It validates his sacrifices, confirms his trajectory, and showcases what is possible for players with both talent and relentless work ethic.
A Model of What Eastside FC Represents
Jonathan embodies the spirit of Eastside FC, chasing improvement, seeking challenges, and investing in long-term growth. His journey shows what commitment can look like, and it inspires teammates, coaches, and younger players across both Wenatchee and Eastside.
Where he’s headed next is exciting to imagine. Because if this is what he’s achieved at 16, his future is wide open.
Jonathan is not just building his soccer career — he’s building the habits, values, and resilience that define champions in life.
