About Coach
Porter
Porter Lombard grew up in the Newport Hills area, playing for the Newport Club and Hazen High School. His coaching journey began as a junior in high school while recovering from a broken leg in club soccer. Porter worked his way through college at Western Washington University and the University of Washington, but he particularly enjoyed playing indoor soccer during his college years. Once at UW, he resumed coaching youth soccer at Lake Washington Youth Soccer. Coaching came naturally to him after his experience as a ski instructor in high school.
Porter holds a USSF National “B” Coaching License. Some of his coaching highlights include winning a top bracket at the Surf Cup, securing a regional championship, and finishing third at nationals. He also had the incredible experience of traveling with a team to Sweden for the Gothia Cup. Three of his former players have gone on to play for the U.S. U20 national team, the Chilean U20 national team, and the Colombian U17 World Cup team. Another former player currently plays professional soccer for the Chicago Red Stars and in Australia. The most rewarding aspect of coaching for Porter is watching his players grow and succeed in life after club soccer. Recently, he has started coaching the children of former players, which has been another true highlight for him.
Porter and his wife, Amy, live in Maple Valley, where they have adopted their two grandchildren, Ariana (8) and Caleb (4). They enjoy golfing, camping, hiking, and “yardening” together. Outside of coaching, Porter owns and runs a carpet cleaning business.
