John
John Hernandez was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he began playing soccer at the age of four. He played competitively as a striker for West Side Alliance Soccer Club, and in 1992, his boys' team helped lay the foundation for what the club has grown into today—expanding its reach across multiple divisions throughout the state. As a player, John achieved several milestones, including selection to the Oklahoma ODP team in 1992, becoming a four-year varsity letterman in high school, reaching the state semifinals in 1994, earning All-District honors from 1994 to 1996, and being named to the Oklahoma East All-State team in 1997. After graduating from Charles Page High School, he went on to attend the University of Oklahoma, earning a degree in Business in 2002.
John continues to play soccer today, primarily in coed leagues, enjoying the camaraderie and shared love for the game. Over the years, he has coached several boys' and girls' teams and finds great joy in developing individual players and helping them bring their strengths together in a team setting. He takes pride in fostering a mindset where players can appreciate the work and dedication it takes to achieve both personal and collective goals.
As a coach, John strives to create a fun, exciting, and team-oriented environment for players who are eager to learn and grow. His goal is to help players become the best versions of themselves while upholding the values and standards of Eastside FC.
John’s passion for coaching is deeply rooted in his own playing experience, the lessons he learned from former coaches and mentors, and his desire to share his knowledge with the next generation. He is driven by the opportunity to inspire young athletes, build meaningful connections, and support their ambitions through the beautiful game.
John has been happily married for twelve years and is the proud father of two children—one who currently plays for Eastside FC and another who plays hockey. Watching his kids grow and develop is one of his greatest joys. Outside of soccer and family life, John enjoys running and is currently training for the World Marathon Majors. He’s also an avid college football fan and a passionate supporter of the Oklahoma Sooners.
