About Coach

Diego

Diego Betancourt was introduced to soccer by his father, who also coaches at Eastside FC. Growing up in a soccer-driven household, Diego started playing recreationally at Lake Hills and Renton from age 5-9. He later played competitively for GRFC (now PacNW), Eastside FC, and Highline Premier FC, as well as in high school at Hazen High. Unfortunately, his playing career was cut short by knee injuries and surgeries, which led him to transition into coaching.

Diego was inspired to coach by his father, who not only coached him throughout his youth but also had him assist with coaching duties when he couldn’t play. His first coaching opportunity came through Viet Nguyen at PacNW SC, who helped Diego get his start. Diego spent three years coaching at PacNW, working with boys’ U8-U11 competitive teams and U8-U9 Jr. Academy players for two years.

Currently holding grassroots licenses in 7v7 and 9v9, Diego plans to pursue his D license in the near future. His coaching style focuses on developing individual technical skills at the younger age groups while keeping sessions fun, simple, and challenging. He emphasizes that defense starts from the forward position and that every player must contribute to both attacking and defending, which helps develop well-rounded players.

One of Diego’s proudest moments as a coach was leading his B2014 team to the 2025 State Cup Finals. The team surpassed expectations and surprised themselves and other top teams with their performance.

Born in Redmond and raised in Renton, Diego is of Mexican descent and is proud of his heritage. He currently works as a Teacher's Assistant at Sherwood Forest Elementary in the Bel-Red area and is also involved in real estate. Outside of soccer, Diego is passionate about music, enjoys DJing, and loves exploring new artists. He’s a fan of Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Tottenham, and enjoys spending time with his partner and their two dogs, Milo (a chihuahua mix) and Heidi (a Yorkie).

Diego’s passion for soccer and his commitment to developing players make him an integral part of the Eastside FC coaching team.
