I was born and raised in the Seattle area, growing up on Mercer Island. I fell in love with the game watching Tony Chursky flying around in goal for the old NASL Sounders. From then on it was an addiction. We played at the park with the older kids, we played late into the night with our car headlights on, we trained against a wall by ourselves. It was pure passion!
I played at Mercer Island High School and then at Western Washington University as a Goalkeeper. After college I played for years on a wonderful men’s team, FTI.I got into coaching when I was 17 years old and the rest is history, I have either coached teams or individuals every year since. I hold a National “C” License and have coached Club, High School, College and with the Seattle Sounders Women. I have been with Eastside FC since the mid 90’s where I started as the Goalkeeper Coach, then I had teams of both genders and now have been the Director of Goalkeeping since 2007 and the College Coordinator since 2010. I had quite a run coaching at Issaquah High School, winning five state championships. I was able to coach many Eastside FC Alumni over the years at the high school level.
I love the outlook Eastside FC has on the game and I try to make sure to emulate that in the training of the Goalkeepers. We are a family and we look out for each other. We have fun and work hard at our sessions. Eastside FC Goalkeepers are consistently going on to play at fantastic colleges around the country.
My days of coaching teams are over. After 20 years at Issaquah High School coaching both Girls and Boys and various teams at EFC, I am now just focused on the position I love, Goalkeeping. As mentioned before I also am the College Coordinator for the club and love being involved in the movement of the player to the next level. It is very rewarding.I am married and live in Kirkland with my wife Karla of 29 years and our two Wiener dogs, Steve and Tobin. Our Son Max lives in California and our Daughter Emily (who played for Eastside FC and Western Washington University) is finishing her final quarter of college.
