On Sunday June 9th, a Charity Game was held to raise awareness to Testicular Cancer on behalf of the Director of Coaching at Cascade FC George Taylor. George Taylor was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer back in 2013 at the age of 23. After a successful operation George was cancer free for 4 years but unfortunately recently relapsed with his cancer coming back spreading to his abdomen. George has been going through weeks of radiation in his battle with cancer and recently finished his first course of treatment.
Our very own Eastside FC Coach Derek Robson decided to organize a surprise Charity Game. Derek is a close friend of George having both moved to Seattle 7 years ago meeting at Cascade FC were Derek previously coached. The game involved George's old Cascade B02 players getting back together after 5 years, from various clubs in the state including Eastside FC B03 ECNL players Sullivan Smith and Justin Hunter to play a one Charity game vs WA State Champions Eastside FC B03 ECNL. Eastside FC donated a signed Jordan Morris-signed Sounders jersey for the event.
"It was really hard to keep the this a secret from George for a over a month as we speak daily. It turned out to be a fantastic day enjoyed by all. Thank you to Nina Ramsey who got all Cascade players back together and a massive thanks to Eastside FC for their donation and Cascade FC, two special clubs." Derek said
The game was held at Jeanne Hansen Park, home to Cascade FC with the entire community coming out to show support for Coach George. His parents also made the trip from England to attend the match.
"An excellent day and so grateful Derek organized it. The 2002 team means a lot to me, it was great seeing them all back together playing, it was a pleasure coaching them today. A big thank you to all the families involved, Cascade FC and Eastside FC." George said.
