Viva La France! Eastside FC Girls' Director Randy Hanson will be going to the 2019 FIFA Womens' World Cup in France as part of the United States Women's National Team Staff. Our Communications team sat down with Randy before he boarded his plane to Paris.
EFC: What is your role with the US Women's National Team?
RH: Scout, mostly for opponents before matches and major competitions as well as during major competitions
EFC: How did you become a staff member with the USWNT?
RH: Past coaching roles with the Sounders Women gave me experience coaching former and current national team players at both the youth and full team levels who were on the team. I also coached and later coached with Michelle French during this time. Frenchie went on to coach the U20 WNT for two cycles where she brought me in to be part of her coaching staff. After 3 cycles with the U20's I was called in to do some scouting with the full team, which brings us to my role now doing opponent scouting for the Women's National team in France this summer.
EFC: Who will you be scouting in France?
RH: I will be assigned opponents to scout in different world cup groups and cities.
EFC: Where will you be at in France?
RH: I will spend time in most of the world cup cities including Paris, Nice, Grenoble, Valenciennes, Le Havre and Lyon.
EFC: WHat are some of the exciting things you will be doing while there?
RH: I will be at the Women's World Cup! I will be seeing the country through my travels by plane, train and via some of the best stadiums in France.
