Dear EFC Families,

Thank you for your continued support as we navigate through these unprecedented times. As we approach the fall, our primary consideration for all our club activities will continue to be the safety of the players, the families, and our coaching staff. In that regard, thank you for your continued adherence to social distancing training protocols. We appreciate that limiting soccer interaction to small group trainings under social distancing guidelines, without playing matches, has been challenging. Nonetheless, our ability as a club to continuously engage in consistent and meaningful training sessions since June is a direct result of the professionalism and commitment of our players, families, directors and coaching staff and in no short part, access to the amazing Preston Park facility. The pandemic is still very real, and we are in the midst of a very fluid situation, which means we must continually adjust our plans as the reality of the situation dictates.

To help with developing and executing our social distancing training protocols and responding to positive COVID tests, we have been in constant communication with Dr. Drezner from the UW. At this point, we are happy and thankful that we have avoided potential mass infection scenarios that the club quarantine and communication protocols and government contact tracing procedures were intended to mitigate. Dr. Drezner has also advocated on behalf of Washington Youth soccer to Governor Inslee and his staff to get approval for phase 3 protocols, which would include playing games. Key to this advocacy is recognition from the Governor’s office regarding our adherence to protocols over the last six months.

Here are the most current updates regarding the calendar and specific leagues we play in, but please know these are all tentative and dependent on advancing to phase 3.

  • All tournaments have been cancelled.

  • The training schedule for all Eastside teams will remain the same through the end of August.

September - November

  • Because of the start of school, we will be adjusting the training schedule to reflect the new hours of availability for the players. We will have the fall training schedule published on or around August 20th. Weekends will be utilized for ALL teams.

If we remain in phase 2:

  • All teams will train 3 times a week

  • 1.25 hours for U12+ teams

  • 1 hour for U9- U12 teams

  • The first training sessions will start at 4:15pm

  • Phase 2 protocols allow for two teams per field, while still requiring social distancing of a minimum of 6 feet at all times for all participants.

  • We chose to train with one team per field because the summer months allowed us to so.

  • Below is an example of an adjusted field layout. We will send out a Preston Park specific graphic including guidelines to enter/exit fields, bag placement, parking, etc.

Upon entering phase 3:

  • The training schedule will be adjusted to free the weekend space up for games.

  • Teams will train twice a week, with plans to add a third session as field availability allows.

  • Game day protocols are in development

  • Variables to develop policy for:

  • Total park capacity and number of people allowed at each field

  • Unfortunately, due to safety protocols, spectators will not be allowed at Preston Park for RCL or ECNL games.

  • Sanitation

  • Team bench areas

  • Parking lot protocols

  • Entrance and exit protocols

RCL League Plans

  • Games are scheduled to begin on the Sept 26-27 weekend dependent on entering Phase 3.

  • No games will be rescheduled, so if the start date gets pushed back, those games will not be played.

  • Due to contact tracing requirements, there will be NO doubleheader weekends.

***We are looking into livestreaming games. This would be a great value add for our members and our club has the facility and capacity to make this happen. Watch for updates!

ECNL Plans

Eastside will be making decisions on whether to attend events based solely on the safety and well being of our players, staff, and families. The timelines for making these decisions will be well in advance of the event, and ability to get refunds for airlines and hotels will be a known quantity before any purchases are authorized.

  • Fall season scheduled to beginning Sept 26-27 weekend – if in Phase 3

  • 14 game NW conference schedule runs into February

  • No doubleheader weekends

  • Plenty of flexibility to schedule this number of games over 6 months (Sept-Feb)

  • Due to contact tracing requirements, there will be NO doubleheader weekends

  • Two travel events for U15+ age groups.

  • U13 and U14 teams will attend one event

  • The ECNL will decide on the viability of each event a minimum of 30 days out.

  • WIAA’s decision to move girls HS soccer from the Fall allowed for a change in their schedule

  • NW conference games against Washington opponents will be played between Sept-Dec - if in phase 3

  • Balance of league games with OR, ID and any other crossover games targeted for Jan/Feb.

  • Some limited amount of games may be played in spring TBD

  • Travel events are scheduled.

  • The ECNL will decide on the viability of each event a minimum of 30 days out.

Once again, thank you for your patience, understanding, and support. We are all ready for the games to begin! Please stay safe and we will have continuing updates as the fall approaches and updates are provided by each of the leagues.

Thank you,

Eastside FC
