GIRLS’ US SOCCER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY PROGRAM
Offered in Partnership with Reign Academy
  • For Girls U12 - U18/19

The US Soccer Development Academy (DA) program is new for girls beginning in 2017. For its inaugural season, Seattle Reign FC joined forces in a 5-year agreement with Eastside FC and Seattle United FC to expand the Reign Academy as it prepares to play this fall. The partnership provides our girls an unrivaled platform to develop both as players and as individuals, in a female-centered environment that is built around the unique needs of the elite female soccer player.

Seventy-one clubs, represented by around 5,000 players across six regions are expected to kick off the program this season.  Eastside FC players will be amongst them, as the club launches and manages Pre-Academy (U12 and U13) and EFC-Reign Academy2 teams (U14, U15, U16, U17 and U18/19) that, along with a mirrored program at Seattle United, feeds Reign Development Academy teams at U14, U15, U16/17 and U18/19.

The partnership calls for the development, implementation and training of a Seattle Reign soccer curriculum at Eastside FC, expected to benefit girl players at all ages and levels. EFC Coaches, too, will benefit from working with their counterparts in the professional NWSL ranks.

Eastside FC’s top girls’ teams at U12 and U13 this year will become the club’s first EFC/Reign Pre-Academy teams.  Along with the five EFC/Reign Academy2 teams, they will continue to practice at Preston and play in the RCL, but will enjoy interaction in the form of friendlies with other Pre-Academy and Reign Academy or Academy2 teams, as well as increased exposure and access to Reign Academy.  EFC/Reign Academy2 teams have the option to sharpen their skills in the Far West Regional League and can count on summer tournaments, friendlies with other Academy2 teams, and college showcases to fill out their year.

EFC players selected to play on the four Reign Development Academy teams can expect to see practice sessions step up to four per week, half on the Eastside and half in Seattle.  These players will travel heavily based on the US Development Academy schedule.

Similar to the current structure of the Boys' Development Academy, the primary principles of the Girls' Development Academy include more training, less total games, more meaningful games, international rules and standards, higher standards and license requirements for coaches, elite referees and increased opportunities for players to be identified and selected to Youth National Teams.
