At U12, Eastside FC boys have the opportunity to tryout for our US Soccer Development Academy Team, which EFC is expanding to U13 and U14 age groups for 2017. Eastside FC players have long found their way to Sounders Academy and US Soccer national teams, but the transition is now made easier by our in-house Academy program, which gives our players more exposure and visibility, and helps streamline the process.
The US Soccer Development Academy exists to develop world class players by providing more and higher quality training with fewer, but more meaningful games, and with a proper rest ratio for developing athletes, the model being encouraged at all levels of youth soccer development. It is based on a 10-month training season. The program requires highly trained and qualified coaches, and shifts away from a results-driven training philosophy, toward a holistic approach to player development, teaching not only soccer, but important life skills, including respect and personal responsibility, the crux of Eastside FC’s coaching philosophy for over two decades.
The program is localized to minimize travel distances and cost in the younger age groups. This year, 2017, the USSF Academy will shift to be in synch with the age groups in the rest of the club: 2006 players will play at U12; 2005 players at U13; and, 2004 players will play at U14.
Players in the Eastside FC Academy Program will have access to Development Academy resources: consistent training and methodology, highly certified coaches, meaningful competition, a thoughtful curriculum that teaches a specific style of play and game plan developed in conjunction with the Seattle Sounders FC, the latest in sports medicine, access to player scholarships, visibility by US Soccer, the Seattle Sounders and college coaches at Development Academy showcase events,... The list goes on.
Eastside FC has a long tradition of great coaches developing great soccer players. Dozens of Eastside FC players find college soccer roster spots each year; dozens more find their way onto Youth Soccer EPD/ODP teams; and a handful break through to US national teams. Eastside FC’s current favorite professional player, Jordan Morris, played with Eastside FC's B94 Red team from U11 to U17, and spent a season with the Sounders' Development Academy before winning a national championship with Stanford University (2015) and the MLS Seattle Sounders (2016), where he was also earned MLS Rookie of the Year. EFC players have continued to find their way to the Sounders Academy, get spots in college and get opportunities with US Soccer, helping blaze a trail, and now as part of the Development Academy itself, Eastside FC will be able to clear an even wider pathway for the club’s elite players.
